What’s “new at NAMI NH” Newsletter
July 2006

News to distribute and share with your groups and classes
This newsletter is currently sent to leaders, teachers, NAMI NH staff and board members, so please make copies, or forward emails to add members to the distribution list.

The affiliate newsletter was not published in June.

Upcoming Events-
August 9- Walk Kickoff event at Fratello’s in Manchester

September 9- Affiliate Leader and Teacher Meeting
9-1:30 at New Hampshire Hospital, conference room c
Lunch will be provided. NAMI NH Board members will be invited to meet and network with affiliate leaders and teachers. Our board president will make an announcement at the board meeting in August.
Watch for your invitation in August with expected agenda.
October 1- NAMI NH Walk 12:30 registration 2:00 walk. To be held at New Hampshire Hospital.
October 1-7- Mental Illness Awareness Week
NAMI NH is planning a week full of activities, go to www.naminh.org for more information on the walk and MIAW

Affiliate News-
Nashua Adult group- Seeing a need to provide support for young adults whose sibling is affected by mental illness, the Nashua group is holding 3 Sibling meetings this summer for young adults ages 18-24.
Portsmouth Adult group- Again this year, Portsmouth is utilizing the summer weather to replace formal meetings with cookouts. All family members are invited.

F2F-
Diane Cyr and Theresa Melanson will be teaching a F2F course in Portsmouth starting the middle of August.
Pat Ciccolo, Kathy Canedy and Geri Foucher are planning for a class this fall in Bedford.

NAMI NH News-
Check out the Advocate this month featuring a story on “Test Drive” the process our own NAMI NH volunteers used to grade the states. Our sincere thanks to all that participated!!

For any of you familiar with our wonderful research assistant, Abby Winzeler, Abby has left NAMI NH to focus on her continuing education. She has consented to continue to oversee our VFT and F2F evaluations. There are currently two employment opportunities available at NAMI NH. Go to www.naminh.org for more details.

Arts and Recovery-
Again this year, as part of MIAW, and in celebration of Bipolar Awareness Day, NAMI NH will set up large tents on the state house lawn to exhibit incredible artwork done by people with mental illness. I attended last year and was so impressed with the beautiful and varied types of artwork and the stories of recovery that accompanied them. If you know of anyone that would like to exhibit their artwork this year, please contact me.

NEEDED –
Walk Captains- contact Annette for a team captain folder
Walk day volunteers- come to the walk 1-2 hours early and join in the walk day set up fun!!

Reminder-
Please record calls or emails you receive regarding your affiliate. If you need another copy of the I & R (Information and Referral) Log please let me know. The information from these log sheets is vital to our grant writing.
