What’s “new at NAMI NH” Newsletter

 Upcoming Events-                 

Annual Awards Dinner- The NAMI NH Annual Awards dinner will be held on Thursday June 19th at the Common Man in Plymouth NH. The Common Man is located right off the highway at exit 26. There will be a NAMI NH Annual Meeting held from 5-6:00, all are invited. There will be voting on new board members and NAMI NH bylaws. Please rsvp if you are attending the Annual Meeting.

The Annual dinner will begin at 6:00, the cost for the dinner is $45.00 per person, please contact the NAMI NH office to purchase tickets.

Annual Award winners- The winners of the annual awards are always exceptional people, but please congratulate Ellen Malloy – Unsung Hero and Nancy Adams- Outstanding Family volunteer. Both will receive their awards on June 19th!!

NAMI National Elections- NAMI NH Support groups that are registered with NAMI National as an Affiliate will be receiving voting packages in the mail early in May. Please cast your vote for bylaws changes and board members. The latest Advocate magazine highlights both the board and the bylaws.

Parents Meeting the Challenge Educational Program Teacher Training-

The Teacher training for this program will be held in May, please contact Claudia Ferber for more details at cferber@naminh.org

Updates

The Affiliate Leader & Teacher Spring meeting was held on April 12th. Thank you to all who attended. Highlights of the meeting include:

  • Over view of current NAMI NH initiatives by Executive Director, Michael Cohen
  • Open  discussion with Mike about supports for consumers
  • Presentation on engaging volunteers
  • Thank you “plants” for attendees because our volunteers help us to “grow”
  • Updates on the membership grant and marketing plans
  • Discussion on the Information and Referral forms and process

Minutes from the meeting will be emailed out and posted to the NAMI NH website, under “News” then scroll down to Newsletters and click on Affiliate Newsletter.

A detailed overview of the I&R form and process has been created to address (hopefully) your comments and concerns. This will be sent out to you shortly.

Berlin Family group- (CMHC) – “ACT- Assertive Community Treatment and IEA’s (Involuntary emergency admissions), CD’s (conditional discharge) and voluntary admissions”

Manchester parent group- Connery Psychological/Andre Connery-“Value of assessments and the difference between mental health care providers; psychiatrist, psychologist etc”. and Parent information center on “IEPs” (Individual educational plan)

Manchester Family group- Jonathan Routhier, Westbridge- “Ask the case manager”.and Michael Disabato- “Police training”

Life Interrupted presentations- Life Interrupted speakers are on the move! Presentations have been made to UNH students, NH Tec Nursing students and New Hampshire Hospital new employees. Upcoming presentations include Community Partners in Dover, Manchester Mental Health, FDIC (federal deposit insurance commission)conference, Hudson Kiwanis, Bedford Family to Family and the Congregational United Church of Christ.

May 8 is Children’s Mental Illness Awareness Day! NAMI NH is offering a book discussion program to elementary schools (grades 1-5) for FREE!The program has a story book “Why is Mommy Sad?” which talks about depression, stigma and that treatment works, related activities, a “gift” for each participant and resource materials for the book discussion facilitator. Would you like to have this brought to your child’s school? If so please provide a contact person’s name, school name, address and telephone number to Claudia on or before April 18, 2008.

****Support Group Facilitator Training-

The training planned for May is being rescheduled to a future date. Meanwhile we continue to actively seeking candidates for this leadership training. Please continue to share your recommendations for new leaders. The training will be held in Concord, mileage reimbursement and childcare reimbursement are available.
