Recognize, Connect! Frameworks Suicide Prevention Project

Core Values and Underlying Assumptions

  • Suicide is generally preventable
  • Everyone has a responsibility in preventing youth suicide
  • Youth, family and survivors are key players (and should be involved in the project design and implementation)
  • Multi-systemic (integrated) approach will be more effective than a single system approach
  • Improved access to treatment for mental illness and substance abuse disorders will help prevent suicide
  • Although Frameworks is youth-focused, most of the project materials can be applied across the lifespan
  • Each individual and community has a unique cultural heritage that impacts on risk and protective factors
  • Evaluation is a key component of the project
  • RECOGNIZE and CONNECT: two key acitons in prevention and intervention
