Thursday, May 26, 2005 - FIFTY YEARS OF CHANGE with guest speaker Jerry Dincin, PhD (Past Executive Director of Thresholds Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centers in Chicago).  Fifty years ago, people with mental illness were shut away and isolated.  Today, most live and work in our communities aided by highly integrated community-based services.  Dr. Jerry Dincin will offer his unique perspective on the revolutionary advances in mental healthcare, and his vision for the future.  He will also cover quality-of-life issues such as housing, jobs and education.

Thursday, October 27, 2005 - AFTER THE WAR with guest speaker Matthew J. Frieman, MD, PhD (Executive Director of the US Department of  Veterans Affairs National Center fo Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Professor of Psychiatry and of Pharmacology at Dartmouth Medical School).  Thousands of US servicemen and women are returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan.  For many, military service leads to self-discipline and strength of character.  For others, war has a devastating impact on them and their families.  Dr. Matthew Friedman will share his insight about the post-deployment readjustment facing veterans, families and communities.

May 2006 (date to be announced) - DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND TEENS with guest speaker Alan I. Green, MD (a Raymond Sobel Professor of Psychiatry and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Dartmouth Medical School).  Adolescence is a time of heightened vulnerability for substance abuse, which may continue into adulthood. Dr. Alan Green will review new research suggesting that this vulnerability may be based on the stage of biologic development of the adolescent brain.  He will discuss the implications of this research for teens and for those who care about them.
