What do proceeds from this event support?
Each year over 6,500 lives are touched by NAMI NH’s supports including family education classes, support groups, suicide prevention trainings, information and referral services and much more.
This year, NAMI NH is providing a portion of the proceeds from “Unmasking Mental Illness” to the Seacoast Suicide Prevention Coalition.
What is the Seacoast Suicide Prevention Coalition?
The Seacoast Suicide Prevention Coalition addresses suicide prevention, intervention and postvention for residents of all ages in the Seacoast Region through a collaborative and comprehensive approach.
Over the past 12 months NAMI NH’s Connect Suicide Prevention Project has been working with concerned seacoast residents to establish and train members of the Seacoast Suicide Prevention Coalition and, through them, the community at large. Connect trains individuals, agencies and communities to recognize and respond to risk factors, and builds social capital by improving communication and enhancing existing relationships between individuals and providers.
A complex problem like suicide calls for a comprehensive community response, and the Seacoast Coalition brings together a diverse group of individuals and organizations who work with people of all ages: health and mental health care providers, law enforcement, faith leaders, social services and survivors who are volunteers. Recognizing that suicide affects all members of a society, regardless of race, age, gender or economic status, the Coalition wishes to extend their efforts to everyone through community awareness events, training and support to survivors.
