NAMI NH Programs
NAMI NH is a grassroots organization of and for people of all ages, their families and friends who are affected by mental illness.
We believe that people with mental illness or serious emotional disorders and their families should have insurance coverage and access to comprehensive, integrated health care and community-based supports without discrimination or stigma.
Through NAMI NH, you’ll meet other individuals and family members who have struggled with mental illness. We come together, in a safe and comfortable setting, to share each other's pain, promote hope and build a better tomorrow for our loved ones and for ourselves.
Our strength comes from our members, so please join us as we work to improve the lives of all people in New Hampshire who are affected by mental illness.
Education
Families and friends of those coping with mental illness can participate in educational programs that are designed to help them gain a greater understanding of mental illness, cope better, worry less and feel newly empowered to advocate for better treatment and services for their loved one. Our programs are taught by trained family members who have experienced living with mental illness.
Parents Meeting the Challenge is an 8-session program for parents and primary caregivers of children and adolescents with serious emotional disorders. Family to Family is a 12-session program for family and friends who have an adult in their life with a mental illness. Side By Side is an 8-session program for families and caregivers of older adults diagnosed with a mental illness.
Education is at the heart of what we do. We provide public education and training, bringing accurate information about mental illness and suicide prevention to the workplace, communities and service providers throughout New Hampshire.
Connect (formerly Frameworks) is a designated National Best Practice training program that increases the competence and confidence of professionals and communities to respond to suicide events.
Support
NAMI NH builds and helps maintain strong support networks throughout the state that are made up of people who have “been there”—they have personal experience with mental illness. Families and friends can participate in support groups that provide education and hope.
Presentations like In Our Own Voice, given by trained individuals who have struggled with mental illness and are in recovery, and Life Interrupted, given by family members who have a loved one with mental illness, gives us all greater insight into mental illness while focusing on hope and recovery.
At our education conferences and support events, we bring families, community members, providers, legislators and experts together to share information about the major issues related to mental illness, treatment and recovery, and steps to improve the system of care.

Advocacy
A voice on mental illness, NAMI NH advocates for improved access to services and social supports, early intervention and science-based practices that promote recovery, and build skills and resilience. Our advocates are trained to be effective at communicating and working collaboratively with others to promote change in available programs, government policies and public perceptions of mental illness.
Our outreach extends to local, state and national leaders and service providers, bringing to them both concerns and solutions, and helping them to understand the need for community-based systems of care that include families in treatment planning, delivery and evaluation of services.
We fight stigma and discrimination by educating our leaders, the media and the public. By dispelling myths, stereotypes and prejudice, we also build awareness that mental illness is an illness like any other.
