Report on Mental Illness Awareness Week
The NAMI NH Walk in Concord – All statistics are not in yet, but we feel the day was a success! Thanks to all the team captains and to affiliate members for joining in.
Lizzie Simon speaks at the Grappone Center
Lizzie Simon, the author of the book “Detour, My Bipolar Road Trip in 4D” inspired a crowd at the Grappone Center on Monday night. She is a remarkable young woman who is open and honest about her journey!
Arts & Recovery Event on the State House Lawn
Artists that have used art in their recovery process displayed their art and shared their experiences under the big tent on the state house lawn. Taking turns they spoke publicly about their recovery and their artwork. The tent was filled all day with people viewing their art. A collaborative painting was created by all the artists and visitors, I even have a few squiggles on there myself. It was a wonderful day and I highly recommend attending next year!
The Faces of Mental Illness Display
Our thanks to Donna Stamper who did a wonderful and creative job putting together the first 3 panels of our anti-stigma display. It was on display at the state house for the walk and will continue to be added to and used at many events. We are still accepting photos!!
Fall Affiliate and Teacher Meeting
We had a great meeting on September 17, thanks to all who participated. If you are waiting for the Minutes, Ideas and Plans they are on their way!!

“There is a large research project, with seven universities participating, trying to solve the mystery of schizophrenia by identifying the genes that cause behavioral traits associated with the illness. The Harvard Medical School Psychiatry Department is one of
the universities participating. Dr. William Stone, site coordinator, is speaking to the NAMI Seacoast family support group in Portsmouth Thursday October 27 at 7 p.m. We invite interested members of your group to this meeting to hear about the study and the opportunity for their family to participate in the research.”
What’s your group doing this fall?? Let me know so we can share ideas.
I am fortunate to have regular contact with many of our affiliate members, teachers and volunteers. There are so many of you, doing so many good things to help so many people and making such a huge difference for people dealing with mental illness.
Contact me at acarbonneau@naminh.org or 1-800-242-6264 ext 25.
Thanks,
Annette
