Emotional Literacy Program

 

 Emotional Literacy Program for Students in Grades 1-5

Teaching students the functional knowlege and skills needed to promote health and prevent disease is critical. The National Health Education Standards identifies the following skills as critical for students in Grades 1-5 to develop: actions that show a sense of empowerment(1); positive ways to handle emotions(2); ways to communicate respect for diversity(3) and positive help-seeking behaviors(4).

Students who participate in the program will:

  • Learn positive help seeking behaviors
  • Gain an understanding of bipolar disorder
  • Treat classmates and others with respect
  • Eliminate stigma

This FREE Emotional Literacy program has been developed for Grade 1-5 students and is available from NAMI NH. The program was launched at the Mental Health AND Schools Conference on October 11, 2012 in observance of Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 7-13). We ask that the program be presented between October 11, 2012 and May 31, 2013 and that a short evaluation be completed and returned to NAMI NH. Program includes the book, a CD with discussion questions, resource materials, student activities and a sample letter to the parents.
