NAMI Manchester
|
Who we are:
We are a support group of family members/friends who have an adult loved one with a mental illness/brain disorder. The facilitators are trained family members who understand the challenges and opportunities facing families who receive services in the mental health system. The group setting provides a safe environment in which to share information and learn from the experience of others as well as receive information from qualified speakers. Most importantly you will learn that you are not alone. You will gain insight and understanding.
NAMI Manchester builds a community of support. NAMI Manchester reaches out with compassion to persons with mental illness and their families who may feel alone, overwhelmed or hopeless, to connect them to resources, support, and hope.
NAMI Manchester advocates for improved education for the community to increase understanding about mental illness and to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness, as well as improved opportunities for quality education for persons with mental illness and their families. NAMI Manchester educates people about the need for system reform, improved supports and research for those with mental illness and their families. Education promotes acceptance and hope for recovery.
NAMI Manchester advocates for legal and policy changes that would improve programs and services for persons with mental illness.
NAMI Manchester promotes research regarding the cause, cure and treatment of mental illness.
