Mental Illness: An Equal Opportunity Health Issue
July is National Minority Mental Health Month. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in four people suffer from some form of mental illness. Mental health issues do not discriminate when it comes to race, gender or income level, says Richard Duran, executive director of the New Hampshire Minority Health Coalition. What a wonderful recognition NAMI NH has been given by our national organization. NAMI National, through this award, among the many things we do, acknowledges the breadth and the impact our Connect Suicide Prevention Program, older adult-Side by Side education program, school transitional age program, police training, and bringing the Family to Family program to the Veteran families in NH.Our commitment to consumers and their families is what keeps us going. These exceptional people have gone above and beyond for people affected by mental illness. All were nominated by community members around the state. The final awards were chosen by the NAMI NH Annual Awards Committee.
