September 2024’s Volunteers of the Month are the Eastman Family!
For the Eastman Family, Chuck, April and their daughter, Kelsey, mental health advocacy is a family affair. They joined as volunteers in 2010 and have been going strong ever since. Over the past fourteen years, Chuck has served on our Board of Directors, April has coordinated raffles and auctions to benefit the organization, and Kelsey has sold her handmade items to raise funds. All three have served on the committee planning NAMIWalks New Hampshire. The Walk began as a small group of folks walking to increase awareness surrounding mental illness. When the Eastmans joined the Walk, there were under 1,000 participants. Over the last decade, NAMIWalks NH has grown exponentially, with over 1,500 walking strong in 2023. Last year we raised over $200,000 and earned a spot in the top ten highest grossing Walks in the country. These strong numbers are thanks in no small part to the tireless efforts of Chuck, April, and Kelsey.
The Eastman Family strives to make sure others going through mental health struggles know they are not alone. They are open about their story and share their own lived experience to raise awareness and give hope to others. They always have mental health resources ready for sharing. At NAMI NH, they found help and hope, and they spread this hope in their community every day.
