January’s Volunteer of the Month

Every year, NAMI NH honors a Volunteer of the Year as a part of our Annual Awards.  The selection for this award in particular is always a momentous task, because every single NAMI NH volunteer is doing amazing things!  In 2023, in addition to our Annual Award for Volunteer of the Year, we will be recognizing some of our fantastic volunteers every month.  While choosing one volunteer a month to highlight will still be a challenge since our volunteers are simply the best, we hope you will join us in the celebration!

NAMI NH would like to acknowledge Cheryl Guerin as the January Volunteer of the Month.  Cheryl came to NAMI NH as a participant in the NAMI Basics Class for parents and caregivers.  From there, she became involved as a volunteer, a Life Interrupted speaker, a NAMI Basics Education Program leader, a member of the NH Family Network Grant Oversight Board, and most recently as a member of the NAMI NH Board.  She supports several NAMI NH youth focused initiatives hoping to share NAMI NH’s goal to improve the lives of all people affected by mental illness and suicide through support, education, and advocacy.  Cheryl is an active participant in the NAMI NH Grant Oversight Board (GOB) which is focused on information and support for youth 18 – 26, and is a voice for other families in the state.  Cheryl consistently contributes at the bi-monthly GOB meetings and, during November’s meeting, Cheryl identified a need for comprehensive information regarding guardianship and supported decision making for youth transitioning to adulthood.  Cheryl suggested the topic and then made significant contributions to the development of the presentation and tools.  The NH Family Network Coordinator and Cheryl delivered this presentation to a NAMI NH support group in January.  Cheryl’s lived experience and understanding of information needs is appreciated as NAMI NH works hard to support our individuals and families throughout the state.
